Down Syndrome Guidance

Consultation Resources

The Government has started its consultation on the statutory guidance required under the Down Syndrome Act 2022.  The consultation will run for 12 weeks and close on 28th January 2026.

The guidance is not straightforward but it is essential that we use this opportunity to feedback to Government in areas where we feel the guidance is lacking. We will be creating a set of resources to help you in this process, but the main way of providing your input to the process is by responding to the questions in the consultation.

This is the guidance, in two formats.  First, the full text and the second button brings you to the EasyRead version.

Examples of best practice and resources available are contained within the annex to the guidance.  This does form part of the consultation, so if you have examples you would like to include in the guidance you can reference them in your submission.

Although outside of the formal statutory guidance, the Government has published a ‘needs paper’ (a ‘need’ is classed as an issue or challenge that may require support) which contains links and references to work completed in the many different areas impacting the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.

This button links to the Government’s summary of the guidance and lists the questions that are asked within the submission site.

This button brings you to the actual consultation questions.  You do not need to answer all of the questions, you can choose to only focus on areas where you wish to input.  Please note that you only have space for 200 words in the free text area, so we suggest drafting your response first before completing.  The 200 word limit does not apply if responding to the EasyRead consultation.
